AC & Heater Repair in San Antonio

Improve Home Cooling with Trees

Tomorrow is National Arbor Day! With temperatures heating up this weekend, you’ll probably be looking for ways to stay cool. Landscaping may be the best solution. Why? Because trees lower the demand for air conditioning. Even a single large tree can provide as much as a 9% reduction in cooling demand.

Shading is key to keeping your house cool, but here’s a few tips you should know before heading outside:

Plant tall trees. Tall timbers will guarantee the most natural shading for your house. Maple, oak, spruce, and pine are great options. The taller the tree, the more sun you will prevent from heating your home.

Keep them away from utility lines. Placing tall trees near overhead utility lines are a hazard you want to avoid. You’ll want to keep small trees 25 feet below or less to avoid any tangling. Medium trees should be kept about 50 feet away.

Be patient. You won’t see results overnight. A tree will benefit your home over time as it matures. The greater is grows, the more good it does for creating shade to your home. In the long run, you’ll be glad you did!

It’s important to provide as much natural shading as possible to prevent your system from overworking. Put it on your to-do list this season! For AC tips and emergency repairs, Schmidt Mechanical is your neighborhood guy. Give us a call at (210) 361-7002. Visit our website for more information.
