AC & Heater Repair in San Antonio

Ceiling Fans Help Your AC Keep You Cool

You know you’re overworking your AC when energy bills raise through the roof in warmer months. On scorching summer days in San Antonio, all you want to do is blast the air conditioning, but did you know there are other ways to minimize energy and stay cool?

Circulating fans are the answer! These fans create a wind chill effect, making you more comfortable at home. Among the many types of circulating fans out there, ceiling fans are considered to be most effective. Before you install one, here’s what you need to know:

1. Put a fan in each room. When the weather gets really hot, you’ll need a fan in each room, but make sure you turn it off when you leave. Why? Because you won’t need it when you’re not in the room. Wind chill created by ceiling fans only makes the room seem cooler to occupants – they don’t actually cool the air.

2. Install fans in rooms with higher ceilings. Ceiling fans aren’t appropriate in rooms with shorter ceilings. They work properly when placed 7-9 feet off the floor. Make sure your ceiling measures a minimum of eight feet in height for the best cooling effect.

3. Get large fans. Larger ceiling fans blow more air around than smaller fans. Go for a 52 inch fan and place them in large rooms. Multiple fans also work great in rooms that are long in width for more wind chill.

4. Go with a more expensive fan. Buying a more expensive fan that operates smoothly and quietly will save you money in the long run. Cheaper units can function poorly and cost you more for service or replacement. Rule of thumb: check its noise ratings and listen to a fan in the store before buying it.

To keep you cool and save energy, use ceiling fans in conjunction with your AC. You’ll be surprised how well they work! Is your air conditioning overworked and in need of repair?
