Ways to Improve Indoor Air Quality

Is the air in your home too dusty? Maybe it’s too dry or muggy.

A lot of your time is spent indoors, so why not make the air in your home as comfortable as possible? If you want to improve your home’s indoor air quality, there are a few things you can do:

1. Windows opens
The weather in San Antonio has finally cooled off, which means we can open the windows and let some air inside. Fresh air can improve indoor air quality by decreasing air pollutants and allergens, also making it easier to breathe.

2. Clean floors
If your home is dusty and you have wall to wall carpets, there’s no coincidence there. Carpet is known to trap allergens, such as pollen, dust, and pet dander. They also require thorough cleaning, so vacuuming on a weekly basis is important. If you have wooden floors, a dry or wet mop should do.

3. Reduce moisture
Your kitchen and bathrooms screen mold and mildew. Between all the cooking and washing up, these rooms suffer a lot of moisture, which can result in fungal growth. Luckily, you can reduce moisture by cracking open a window or switching on a fan. There are also several houseplants that can reduce indoor moisture, such as areca palm, philodendron, and bamboo.

4. Minimize indoor air pollution
Make the air in your home healthier by getting rid of pollutants that are bad for your health. There are several ways you can reduce air pollution in your home. For example, you can recycle glass bottles, cardboard, and aluminum. Lower your thermostat water heater to 120 degrees fahrenheit. And lastly, test your home for radioactive gases, like radon.
