AC & Heater Repair in San Antonio

AC Tips to Help You Beat the Texas Heat

Let’s face it: Summer days in Texas can be brutal. And if you don’t have a good-functioning air conditioner, you’re bound to be uncomfortable. But as we all know, your AC needs some TLC. So here are five quick tips to help you heat that southern heat:

Tip 1: Inspect the filter
It might be a simple solution of cleaning the filter or replacing it if needed. Season after season, these pieces get collected with dust and allergens. And after time, the filter becomes clogged, making your system work harder to supply your home with cool air.

Tip 2: Isolate your thermostat
Be sure your don’t place your TV sets, computers, and other heat-producing electronics near your thermostat. The thermostat senses heat, which causes unit to run longer than necessary. This also means you’re better off keeping it in a shady area of your home.

Tip 3: Know your model
If your old unit isn’t functioning properly, it might be time to replace your system. How do you know? Ask your HVAC contractor about your model – how old it is, it’s life expectancy, and other tips it might take to help it run to the best of its ability.

Tip 4: Don’t turn the dial
Remember: each degree matters! So if you’re dial touches below 78 degrees, your energy consumption can bump up by about 8 percent. Also, the more you make your AC work, the harder it takes to run efficiently and the more likely it is for something to go wrong.

Tip 5: Schedule a tune up
Cleaning and tuning up is necessary for these complex systems. So call your HVAC professional and schedule a tune-up once per season, especially before summer returns.
