AC & Heater Repair in San Antonio

How to Prep Your Home for Vacation

Leaving for paradise this Spring Break? Before you hop on a jet plane, don’t leave your house behind without securing a few things:

1. Turn off all electric. This includes unplugging appliances and shutting off electronics.
2. Turn on timers. A dark home can be a target. So whether you’re away for three days or a week, set times for lamps around your house to light up the night (as if someone is home).
3. Clean out the fridge. Who wants to come back to a smell home? Clean the refrigerator to get rid of all perishable or expired foods. And take out the trash once you’re finished.
4. Store the gold. Place all of your prized jewelry and valuable security information in a safe-deposit box.
5. Bring the spare key in. Lower the risk of a stranger entering your home by taking the key out from under the welcome mat or the outdoor plant. Keep it inside until you return.
6. Let the neighbors know. Let a trusted neighbor or two know that you will be out of town. Ask them to keep their eyes and ears out for suspicious activity. You might also benefit from giving them a list of telephone numbers in case they need to reach your hotel or a family member nearby.
7. Call your HVAC tech. Let them know you’ll be out of town and ask if there is anything you should know about your system before leaving it unattended while you’re out of town. They’ll have your answers.
